This library subject endowment was established by UCSC "Buccaneer" alumnus Patrick Riley, Cowell 1968, whose wide-ranging interests include history, zoology, mineral resource development, and the evolving field of film studies. The endowment was created in honor of his wife Roberta Riley, a talented and successful film producer. The endowment is intended to provide significant enrichment for Film Studies collections in the UCSC Library, in support of the campus' innovative program in both the practical and theoretical elements of this exciting discipline. Endowment income will provide film students with additional materials in all formats—books, videos, reference materials, journal subscriptions, and enhanced access to electronic resources. Endowment income will target areas of special interest to faculty, unusual and experimental examples of the film art, and important journals that the library has not been able to acquire. The endowment will help transform the library's Film Studies collection into a distinctive and exceptional resource within California.
