Established by sculptor Morris Brose to provide enriched support for UCSC library collections in Jewish art and culture, enhance library holdings on artists working in the Jewish Diaspora, and acquire material by and about artists whose work embraces the theme of Jewish identity. Brose was raised in a traditional European Jewish community and immigrated to the United States, where he became a successful artist and teacher.
The endowment supports acquisition of a wide variety of library materials on Jewish art, including significant contemporary examples of the genre, historical and critical works, subscriptions to relevant journals, reference works, and materials in non-print formats, such as slides and video recordings.
