Digital Instruction Project

The Digital Scholarship Commons (DSC) and Center for Innovations in Teaching and Learning (CITL) launched the first year of the DIGITAL INSTRUCTION PROJECT in the Fall 2016 Quarter with 6 participants. We are thrilled to invite applications for a second cohort for the 2017-2018 Academic Year.

The DIGITAL INSTRUCTION PROJECT is NOW accepting proposals for the 2017-18 Cohort.

Work with us and a cohort of your peers to brainstorm and refine a new digital assignment to be implemented during Winter of Spring 2018 Quarters. Please direct any questions and application material to before Friday, August 25.


We will provide:

  • TIME and SPACE for focused and thoughtful conversation about pedagogy with a cohort of your peers
  • ONE-ON-ONE consultation and assignment development with Aaron Zachmeier, Instructional Designer, and Rachel Deblinger, Director, Digital Scholarship Commons
  • STUDENT SUPPORT for course development and implementation in the classroom


We ask that you commit to a year-long schedule to include:

  • Design and development consultation with Aaron Zachmeier, Instructional Designer, and/or Rachel Deblinger, Director, Digital Scholarship Commons
  • A two hour workshop with cohort to refine assignment plans
  • Implementation of assignment in classroom during Winter 2018 or Spring 2018
  • Public presentation of assignment 
  • Evaluation and additional meeting to refine assignment for future use


For consideration, please send a 1 page (max) application to by Friday, August 25. 

The application should include:

  • The name and number of a course to be taught during the 2017-2018 AY with an estimated number of students. 
  • A brief description of a new assignment. Please include specifics about what you want the students to learn and how this new assignment will help them achieve that learning. 
  • What you hope to get out of a cohort based program.

We’re looking for assignment ideas that:

  • Will improve learning
  • Solve a problem or take advantage of an opportunity
