Passing of Mrs. Theresa Hihn
Mrs. Therese Hihn, whose life has been closely linked with that of this
community since the early fifties, passed away Sunday evening about 10
o’clock.
....................
She was the mother of eight children, but two of whom survive her: Mrs.
Kate Henderson of Capitola and Mrs. Agnes Younger. Those who have preceded
her in death are Hugo, Lillie, Louis, Mrs. Theresa Ready, Fred and August.
The grandchildren are Theresa [Teresa] Hihn, Ruth Ready, Fred D. Hihn
and Donald, Bruce and Jane Younger.

“... Sunday last Tom [Dakan] and I had our usual day out, and
the principal part of the conversation was telling about what we would
do if we had Donald with us, or what Donald had done on a previous occasion
at the same place. Sunday we were at Valencia. We drove a young horse.
When we arrived there she was quite warm, and when she had rolled in
the sand she was very dirty. I asked permission of the Jap who seems
to be the Major Domo of the Hihn Company at Valencia, to put the horse
in the barn, which he granted me. I thought that your Grandpa Hihn would
be willing for us to use a little of the grass hay which they had out
there. When I returned to get the horse I found that she had been beautifully
cleaned and she looked as if her mane had been curled by the Jap, I
suppose.”
“I saw your Grandpa Hihn for the first time in some weeks, on
Tuesday afternoon. I never saw him look quite so tired. One of
his eyes seemed to be swollen and very sore.”
