UCSC Faculty, Faculty Emeriti, Non-Senate and Non-Senate Emeriti Academics, and Lecturers with Non-Consecutive Teaching Assignment

Identification cards for this category of borrower are issued by the appropriate campus offices. The cards and associated privileges are valid for the borrower’s term of employment or until the annual expiration date provided on the card.

In the case of faculty members with indefinite appointments, library accounts expire once a year, at which time faculty members may contact the Circulation Desk to update their contact information and renew their items. Their library account expiration dates will then be extended for an additional year.

This category of borrower is eligible for the following Library Services:

• extended loans
• unlimited borrowing
proxy library cards*
• remote access to the licensed databases
• Interlibrary Loan
• Reserves
• Film and Music Collection

NOTE: Lecturers with Non-Consecutive Teaching Assignments

Effective 11/05, lecturers with non-consecutive teaching assignments may obtain borrowing privileges the quarter before their teaching assignment begins. Lecturers should contact their divisional coordinator about obtaining their staff ID to initiate the process. This ID will not have an employee number on it. The card should have the lecturer's name and should state the dates of employment. Lecturers should present the ID to either circulation desk and library privileges will be granted through the first two weeks of the lecturer's teaching quarter. To renew library privileges, lecturers will need to obtain their employee ID number from their divisional coordinator. This number will be added to the staff ID and the ID will then become the official UCSC Staff ID and Library Card for the duration of the lecturer’s assignment. Once the employee number is added to the ID and presented to library circulation staff, library privileges will be extended through September 30th of the same year or the next depending on which quarter the teaching assignment begins.

*Proxy Borrowing

Proxy borrowing cards permit UCSC faculty to designate individuals of their choosing to borrow library material in their name. Proxy borrowers must be working for the faculty member to be eligible for a proxy card. Cards are issued for one quarter and may be renewed. Cards may be obtained at the McHenry Library or Science & Engineering Library Circulation Desk. A proxy card application completed and signed by the faculty member requesting the proxy account needs to be presented to the Library Circulation staff to set-up an account. The faculty member is responsible for any damaged, lost, overdue, or recalled material checked out on the proxy card.

Department heads who are not faculty may request proxy borrowing privileges by submitting a written request to the Head of Circulation at either the McHenry Library or Science & Engineering Library.

UCSC students who are physically challenged and are registered with the Disability Resources Center (DRC) may apply for a proxy card at either the McHenry Library or Science & Engineering Library Circulation Desk.
