The University Library Media Center is located in Room 0350 on the ground floor of the McHenry Library addition. We manage the Library's audio, video, and CD-ROM collections.

Items in the Media Center collection circulate only to UCSC faculty members. However, we provide individual workstations and small group rooms for students to use while working with the Media Center collection.

We maintain media reserves including videotapes, laserdiscs, DVDs, phonographic records, cassette tapes, CDs, music scores, music reserves on ERes, and music reserves on iTunes via AppleTV.

We reproduce select audio CDs in support of language instruction.

For more information about our services, please use the navigational tabs above.

Electronic Music Reserves
Zachary Watkins, the Media Center's Recording Technician, manages electronic music reserves in a variety of ways:

  • He creates custom compilation CDs for instructors and places those on reserves
  • He mounts instructor playlists into iTunes for student access in the Media Center
  • He uploads instuctor playlists onto our QuickTime Streaming Server and makes them available to students through our ERes electronic reserves system

Please contact Zachary at zwatkins@ucsc.edu or call 459.3398 for more information about our electronic music reserves programs.

Requests for electronic music reserves are processed in the order in which they are received. Turn-around time depends on the size and complexity of the project. If you wish to use electronic music reserves via ERes, please be aware that once Zachary completes his work, he hands the project off to the McHenry ERes manager.

N.B. The McHenry ERes manager cannot complete the process of adding course assets until he receives an ERes Course Page Request Form. Please complete this form at the same time you make your request for uploading playlists. This will guarantee you a more favorable position in the McHenry ERes work queue.

On-line Language Instruction
The Media Center support on-line language instruction for:

Language CD Duplication
The Media Center duplicates select foreign language audio CDs for a nominal charge.

CD-ROM/DVD-ROM Installation

Patron Privacy Rights

The University Library is committed to protecting the privacy rights of all library users. We do not disclose the identity of any library user who has checked out an item needed by another library user.

On occasion, an instructor will attempt to check out a title from our collection for classroom use only to find that the title is already checked out. While we can never disclose the identity of the person who holds the item, we are happy to act as an intermediary and attempt to convey the instructor's need.

The best way to ensure that an item is available when you need it is to use our booking service.
