Academic Senate Passes Open Access Policy

Open Access Logo

The Academic Senate of the University of California voted to adopt a campus-wide open access policy for Senate faculty. The primary aim of this policy is to make UC scholarship more easily and broadly discoverable and available to anyone in California or the world.

Quick Facts:

  • The policy grants a default non-exclusive license to the University to make published articles freely available to the public in an open access repository where faculty will deposit digital copies of their published articles.
  • UCSC faculty are not required to act until November 1, 2014.
  • Faculty can opt out of the policy.
  • Faculty will continue to publish as normal, in the most appropriate and prestigious journals.
