Visual Resource Collection

About Us

The Visual Resource Collection provides images in conventional slide as well as digital format for the entire campus community. Since its founding in the late 1960s, the Collection's mission has been to fulfill the visual resource needs of faculty and students in support of teaching, research, and University service.

Visual resource material includes over 348,000 conventional slides from all disciplines, time periods, and most cultural groups. SlideCat, the Visual Resource Collection's catalog database, provides Internet access to the content of the slide collection.

In addition we provide access to digital image databases, most prominently ARTstor, a digital library of more than one million images in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities, and social sciences with a set of tools to view, manage, and present images. Not only do we offer workstations and support in how to use ARTstor, we are also actively participating in its growth by contributing to UC Shared Collections within ARTstor.
