Major Staff Assignment Changes:

In January, Tasha De La Luz joined Technical Services. Marge Colletta, the cataloging intern, worked 150 hours during this period.

Projects and Tasks:

1. Cataloging / Electronic Record Management:

Completed Projects:

  • Global update of 655 for theses and dissertations
  • Cataloging Intern trained
  • Shelf Ready of CJK firm orders by one Chinese vendor explored and established
  • Insert oclc numbers into SCP e-mono records (LION, MOMW)

Projects in Progress:

  • Explored working with OCLC to set up pilot to outsource original cataloging
  • Integrating Resource format for database, websites and loose-leaf materials: codes in Cruzcat and Melvyl updated.
  • Monograph original cataloger learning serials cataloging
  • CJK copy cataloging training to LA III
  • Global update of closed dates in personal name authority heading
  • Modify load tables to accommodate changes in incoming data
  • Insert oclc numbers into SCP e-mono records (EAI)

Pending Projects:

  • Training on Classification Web / Catalogers Desktop / UC on the Funnel Project for OCLC/CONSER serials record maintenance
  • Authority control issues
  • OCLC Reclamation Projects
  • Train copy catalogers on identifying the relationships between serial and monograph records
  • Fix duplicate oclc numbers in Cruzcat

  • Enhance understanding of serials staff on CDL consortial serials purchases
  • Insert oclc numbers into SCP e-mono records (LION, MOMW, EAI)
  • Upgrade 2,000 low level serials records to prepare for the OCLC Reclamation Project

Pending Projects:

  • Review relationship between Collection Development and Serials Acquisitions
  • Systematic review of vendor online availability reports and SFX Knowledgebase against local subscriptions to further activate electronic access
  • Streamline the identification of online availability, pricing, license gathering/status check, and ordering of electronic serials into the serials ordering process for more effective management

3. Acquisitions:

Completed Projects:

  • Process replacement requests. 200 replacements ordered. 119 sent  for bibliographers to review.
  • Update endowment fund list
  • April pipeline ordering- record number of slip orders-1128 in April
  • Serial record training for Acquisitions staff
  • Record deletion process updated
  • Import invoices procedure updated
  • Replacement notice procedure updated
  • Cat date/location added to 76 records, 18 records merged
  • Migrated to Connexion Client 2.10
  • Migrated to Gobi 3-Gobi ordering procedure updated
  • Monographs with open r-dates reconciliation- 213 records
  • Review of item records for withdrawal- 390 records
  • Section representative on Collection Move Team
  • Endowment fund overspending review with Financial Services

Projects in Progress:

  • OCLC Connexion functionality and features to be applied to acquisitions operations.
  • Acquisitions/cataloging pilot cross-training project: Mordechai processed foreign language approvals for Acquisitions & cataloged books at same time. Janet M. received and cataloged rushes purchased at Baytree, and downloaded and updated records.
  • Procedure for terms of use, purchasing & downloading pdf files for computer games.
  • Record deletion files review- 12,083 records
  • Review of output vouchers process with Financial Services
  • Review of required payment data record policy
  • Items lost in process 2007
  • Review, add and update vendor records. Review vendor of vendor=none 437 records.
  • New LAIII staff training- download, update records, Ingram orders

4. Technical Services:

Completed Projects:

  • Staff/Collection move to new Library Addition and dealing with all its related issues
  • Testing various WorldCat Local features, e.g. item statuses
  • New locations added and display of old locations updated: med, medre, mgdsk, spkp, spphd
  • Procedure for monthly statistics generation using III Create List revised for new ARL and ACRL requirements
