UCSC Campus History Resources

Library Collections

The University Library holds many archival collections covering a wide range of topics related to institutional history. These collections are usually the papers of a significant group or individual who played a key role in the activities of the campus or whose work supports the academic programs at UCSC. Since individual subject areas of interest will vary from person to person, we recommend browsing the list of electronic finding aids on UCSC’s Online Archive of California (OAC) website:

Digital links to finding aids for library collections of immediate relevance to the UC Santa Cruz campus are located on the OAC’s main website at:

Visitors can find finding aids to additional archival and primary resources on the main Online Archive of California website and on the website of the California Digital Library.

The library’s Special Collections department also houses uncataloged archival materials related to campus history. These items include campus handbooks, college directories, flyers, posters, photographs and yearbooks. For access to these materials, please contact Special Collections staff at speccoll@library.ucsc.edu or at (831) 459-2547.
