Acquisition and Copyright

Acquisition

Visual material is purchased from commercial vendors, galleries, and museums, or donated to the University Library. Source documentation indicating where material has been obtained can be furnished. Slide vendor catalogs are available for reference within the Visual Resource Collection. For further information about ordering slides for instructional use please contact VRC staff.

Copyright

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, US Code, 1976) and the International Berne Convention govern the making of copies of copyrighted material. The University of California complies with copyright law, which prohibits the copying of slide material that is under copyright protection without specific written authorization from the copyright holder.

Slides are lent under the express condition that they will be used for teaching and study purposes only. Slide reproduction by any means, electronic or mechanical, is strictly forbidden.

It is implicit in the lending of slide material that the borrower agrees not to authorize duplication or reproduction and in using borrowed slide material is liable for any infringement.

For UCSC patrons, questions about copyright restrictions and queries regarding copyright holders should be addressed to the Visual Resource Collection staff. For non-UCSC patrons, please refer to the following websites for the latest information.
