Why Are You Being Billed?

• • You have a book checked out that is 45 days past its due date. The Library is billing you for the replacement of that book.
  • You owe fines/fees for items returned after their due dates.
  • You owe for Interlibrary Loan items.
  • You owe for Media and Electronic Resource Center (MERC) items.

Billing Definitions

Item Charge: This is the cost of replacing the book for which you have been billed.

• • Once a book is returned or renewed, the replacement charge will be removed from your account.
  • The library does not accept replacement copies for lost items.

Processing Fee: This is a late fee that is imposed on any book that is over two weeks late.

• • This fee is non-refundable.

Billing Fee: A billing fee is levied when billing a patron for the replacement of a book.

• • This fee is non-refundable.

The Following will NOT Result in Reduced/Cancelled Fines:

• • Failure to note due dates or to renew on time
  • Lack of knowledge of library policy or loan regulations
  • Disagreement with library policy
  • Inability to pay fines or charges
  • Failure to receive a courtesy overdue notice (for more information see other important information below)
  • Unwillingness to take responsibility for materials loaned to a third party
  • Appeal submitted 30 days or longer after the fine was assessed

Submitting Appeals/Billing Questions

• • You may submit a billing appeal on-line up to 30 days after being billed.
  • Leave a message at (831) 459-4053.

Payment

• Online with your credit card: visit your library account and click on the pay online icon.
• Payment may be made by check (made payable to UC Regents) or by credit/debit card at the Circulation Desk of either McHenry or Science & Engineering Library during regular library hours.
• You may also call the Circulation Desk to make a credit card payment by phone (831) 459-2756 or (831) 459-5300
• You may also mail a check (made payble to UC Regents) to: UCSC McHenry Library, Attn: Billing, 1156 High Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95064-1077 (DO NOT SEND CASH)

Other Important Information

• You can check your account online at cruzcat.ucsc.edu/patroninfo. This feature allows you to view all books you have checked out and their respective due dates, and to renew your books online.
• Renew your books by calling (831) 459-2756.
• Make sure that the library has your current address and e-mail information, so that you will receive courtesy notices. Please be sure to keep your My UCSC account up to date.
• Your library account will be blocked if you have billed items or if your balance due is over $25 for students and Friends of the Library, or over $50 for faculty, staff, and graduate students. You must pay down your account below the maximum to have your account unblocked.
• Unpaid bills will be sent to a collection agency.
