Overview

The University Library offers Reserves services, at both the McHenry and the Science & Engineering Libraries, in order to make a limited amount of instructional material available to a large number of borrowers.

• Reserve material circulates to UCSC students (including Concurrent), faculty, and staff only.
• Please have photo identification and the call number for the item(s) needed. Call numbers can be found via the Course Reserves search page.
• Patrons may check out up to 5 Reserve items at one time.
   

Loan Periods
2-hour* - due in two hours, rounded to the nearest hour.
1-day - due in 24 hours, rounded to the nearest hour.
3-days - due in 72 hours, rounded to the nearest hour.

Placing Bookings (Holds)

• If a Reserve item is currently checked out, or you would like to pick an item up at a later time, you can place a booking on the material.
• Bookings must be done in-person.
• Bookings can be placed in-person at either library, regardless of where the desired material is held.
• Bookings cannot be placed more than one business day in advance, except when placing bookings on 72-hour items that are currently checked out.
• Bookings may not be placed on multiple copies of the same item, or on an item that you currently have checked out.
• Bookings expire 15 minutes after the specified pick-up time.

Overdue Fees

• $5 for the first hour, or partial hour.
• $2 for every hour, or partial hour, thereafter
• $75 maximum per item

Overdue fees for Reserves items continue to accrue when the library is closed.

Payment may be made with a check, money order, Visa or Mastercard (including debit). Card payments are accepted over the phone or in person.
 

Copyright Law and Course Reserves
The University Library Reserves service is in compliance with UC Copyright Guidelines for Fair Use guidelines. Any materials submitted that are not in compliance cannot be placed on Reserves and immediately returned.
