BIOSIS Previews [UC Only]
1969-present. This is the big life sciences database. It is very interdisciplinary within biology, including biochemistry, ecology, genetics, microbiology, ocean sciences, plant biology and zoology. BIOSIS is a good place to start for topic exploration, or if your topic is plant biology, laboratory studies, or genetics. Comprehensive searches should always include BIOSIS.
Note: You can now search BIOSIS and Web of Science at the same time. Choose CrossSearch from the pull down menu at the top of the BIOSIS home page.
Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management
1981-present. Searchable database of citations and abstracts of
articles and reports on the following topics: agricultural biotechnology,
air quality, bacteriology, environmental impact statements, safety
science, waste management, toxicology, pollution, and environmental
science.
PubMed
1966-present. Citations and abstracts covering medicine, biochemistry,
biology, bioengineering. Includes links to full text journals from
publishers' sites where available.
Toxline
1994-current. Information in all areas of toxicology, including chemicals and pharmaceuticals, pesticides environmental pollutants, and mutagens and teratogens. Provides bibliographic citations and abstracts from journal articles, monographs, technical reports, theses, letters, meeting abstracts, papers and reports.
Web Of Science (Science Citation Index) [UC Only]
1975-present. This is an index to scientific journal articles that also allows you to search for citations to a particular article. You look up the reference to an article that you know about to find more recent journal articles that have cited it. Cited reference searching is a unique way to trace ideas and subjects from past research into the present day. Searchable by author, keyword, and cited reference. Unfortunately this database does not cover conference literature. Because there are a limited number of ports available, please be sure to logoff when you are finished so that your connection can be made available to someone else. Note: You can now search BIOSIS and Web of Science at the same time. Choose CrossSearch from the pull down menu at the top of theWeb of Science home page.
