- For articles on reserve for a class, see ERes (Electronic Reserves). You can connect to online resources from home by logging into our Off-Campus Access service.
- ADS (NASA Astrophysics Data System)
- Coverage includes Geophysics, as well as Astronomy and Astrophysics, Instrumentation, Physics and preprints in Astronomy.
- Earthquake Engineering Abstracts (EEA) - Access to world literature in earthquake engineering since 1971.
- Academic Search Complete [UC Only]
A searchable database with citations and abstracts for journal articles covering all academic disciplines. Full text is available for more than 50% of the articles in this database. Subject areas: art and art history, general subjects, humanities, science and engineering, social sciences. Good place to start for general multidisciplinary searches or for more popular articles.
- GeoRef [UC Only] The most comprehensive database in the geosciences.
Covers the geology of North America from 1785 to the present and the geology of the rest of the world from 1933 to the present. The database includes references to all publications of the U.S. Geological Survey. Masters' theses and doctoral dissertations from US and Canadian universities are also covered.
- GeoRef Preview Database
Includes recent material in the pipeline that will soon end up in GeoRef. Caution: material may not yet have been indexed, been given a translated title, or been checked by a GEOREF editor.
- INSPEC [UC Only]
Good coverage of geophysics literature.
- Oceanic Abstracts [UC Only]
Technical literature pertaining to the marine and brackish water environment. Focuses on marine biology and physical oceanography, fisheries, aquaculture, non-living resources, meteorology and geology, plus environmental, technological, and legislative topics.
- SciFinder Scholar [UC Only]
Covers geochemistry 1967-present. Use this link to download the SciFinder software to use in your home or office. SciFinder Scholar is also available in the S&E Library.
- Web Of Science (Science Citation Index) [UC Only]
1955-present. This is an index to scientific journal articles that also allows you to search for citations to a particular article. You look up the reference to an article that you know about to find more recent journal articles that have cited it. Cited reference searching is a unique way to trace ideas and subjects from past research into the present day. Searchable by author, keyword, and cited reference. Unfortunately this database does not cover conference literature. Because there are a limited number of ports available, please be sure to logoff when you are finished so that your connection can be made available to someone else.

Dissertations and Theses
- Digital Dissertations [UC Only]
This database provides access to the full-text of all Ph.D. dissertations from University of California campuses since 1997 (many issued in late 1996 are also available). The first twenty-four pages of dissertations from many other universities is also available. Also included, with more than 1.5 million entries, is the Dissertation Abstracts International database, the authoritative source for information about doctoral dissertations and master's theses. The database includes citations for materials ranging from the first US dissertation, accepted in 1861, to those accepted as recently as last semester; those published from 1980 forward also include 350-word abstracts, written by the author. UCSC master's theses are not in this database. Citations for master's theses from many other universities are available here.
- UCSC Master's Theses & Doctoral Dissertations (Special Collections Database)
Database of all postgraduate papers published at UCSC, searchable by author or title, and browsable by department, degree conferred, or year of publication. Recent papers awaiting cataloguing are included; catalogued papers are held at McHenry Library Special Collections, as well as in the McHenry and Science and Engineering Library stacks. Covers: 1967-present.

- Earth Science World ImageBank
A service provided by the American Geological Institute (AGI). This ImageBank is designed to provide quality geoscience images to the public, educators, and the geoscience community. Contains over 3000 images searchable on-line.
- USGS Photographic Archive
This collection consists of over 19,000 photos and sketches ranging in age from 1868 through 1992 with emphasis on Geology, Earthquake Damage, National Parks and Monuments, Pioneer Photographers such as W.H. Jackson, J.K. Hillers, T.H. O'Sullivan, A.J. Russell and others, Mount St. Helens Volcanic Eruption of 1980, and Mines, Mills and Quarries. Photos are not copyrighted and maybe viewed and downloaded free of charge.

- UCSC Visual Resource Collection
Database with textual descriptions of over 200,000 images in the UCSC Visual Resource Collection. You may also visit the Collection in the McHenry Library.
