A searchable database with citations and abstracts for journal articles covering all academic disciplines. Full text is available for more than 50% of the articles in this database. Subject areas: art and art history, general subjects, humanities, science and engineering, social sciences. Good place to start for general multidisciplinary searches or for more popular articles.

PubMed UC Version [UC Only] Editor's Choice!
Mid-1960's - present. This searchable database of citations to biomedical literature is a customized University of California edition of the the National Library of Medicine PubMed database. This edition includes more links to full text than the public version, and provides enhanced access to document delivery, among other things.

BIOSIS Previews [UC Only] Editor's Choice!
1969-present. This is the big biology database, covering all aspects of biology, including botany, ecology, microbiology and biochemistry. Its a massive database of scientific (not popular) articles.

Books and Other Materials on Reserve for Classes
Students
-- Course reserves are listed in the CRUZCAT online catalog. You can search by course name or instructor to find items on reserve for your class. More information about reserves is also available.

Library of Congress Subject Headings
Both the CRUZCAT and Melvyl Catalog use "Library of Congress Subject Headings" to catalog books. These subject headings are slow to change and sometimes removed from contemporary usage; they are, however, extremely useful in locating books and articles. From the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences at the University of Iowa, this resource provides a comprehensive list of infectious diseases linking to related information on the Internet and images of physical symptoms.

John Hopkins Infectious Diseases Website
This site was created by John Hopkins University as a resource for physicians and other health care professionals in providing care and treatment to patients with infectious diseases. It provides information from the Center for Tuberculosis Research, including epidemiology and natural history, treatment, drug information, global and national statistics, and related resources. It also provides information on Hepatitis C, including diagnosis, treatment, transmission, and prevention.

MEDLINEplus: Infectious Diseases
A resource from the US National Library and Medicine and the National Institute of Health that includes sections on overviews and the latest news concerning infectious diseases, as well as information on clinical trials, statistics, diagnosis, and prevention. The A-Z directory also includes similar information on these related topics: Antibiotics, Bacterial Infections, Immunization, Infection Control, Parasitic Diseases, Traveler's Health, and Viral Infections.

National Foundation for Infectious Diseases
This resource was created by NFID to promote public and professional education about infectious diseases. It provides comprehensive fact sheets on several diseases, including chickenpox, herpes, hepatitis, measles, and TB, as well as topics such as foodborne illnesses, identifying microbial pathogens, child care facilities, and vaccines.
