Dune by Frank Herbert

Thinking back, I believe Science Fiction had more to do with why I wanted to study science and engineering than anything that happened in school. The romance of the future, and the possibility of being one of those who turned speculation into reality were very seductive to me. "Dune" contained not only advanced technology, but clear scars from the abuse of technology. Doing it right the first time became a particular interest of mine.
