Stephen Thorsett
- Professor, Astronomy/Lick
Selected: Pulsars
by Richard N. Manchester and Joseph H. Taylor
An
out-of-print classic, this 1977 book was written just a decade after
the discovery of the eponymous pulsating radio sources. The field
has since evolved in surprising and exciting directions, but the
best introduction remains this slim and elegant book. I acquired
it while I was a graduate student in theoretical physics, trying
to complete a required experimental project. Now, with fifteen years
as an observational radio astronomer and pulsar fanatic under my
belt, I can say thanks!
