The Design of this Website

The Honored Faculty, Honored Books website was designed by Bryn Kanar, the Web Developer for the UCSC Library. To complement the theme, he created a look reminiscent of an old, much-read book. The graphic to the left celebrates the imaginative side of science. It comes from an article about the possibility of creating a 'perpetual motion' machine:

'An Examination of Monsieur Perault's new-invented Axis in Peritrochio, said to be entirely void of friction: With an experiment to confirm the reasoning made upon an Axis in Peritrochio first us'd in Mons. Perault's manner, then in the common way.'

Desaguliers, J.T. LL.D.
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London, No. 412, Jan-Feb 1730, pp. 222-227.

May books and libraries continue, even in this online age, to inform the imaginations of scientists for many years to come.
