  • Expansive Window Areas - Windows on the south and west sides of the building are 'heat mirrors': there is a plastic material laminated between the glass panels to prevent heat buildup on warm days and to keep heat in on cold days.

  • S.H. Cowell room - The mission of the S.H. Cowell Room is to promote scientific information literacy to UCSC and the communities it serves. As part of this effort the S.H. Cowell Room facilitates easy access to scientific information in non-print form. The Cowell room was funded by a generous grant from the S.H. Cowell Foundation of San Francisco and is open to faculty, students, and the general public. The room is equipped with 41 workstations, both Windows and Macintosh platforms.
  • Current Periodicals Reading Room - contains study/lounge area and floor-to-ceiling windows giving the illusion of sitting amid the redwoods. Houses the current periodicals/journals collection, newspapers, and new book shelf. The room is also used for the Synergy Lecture Series.
  • Library Instruction Room - equipped with overhead projector, data projector, and large screen for use with groups of up to 24 people. Network connections for hands-on library training.
  • Map Room - 136,000 maps and over 100,000 aerial photographs
  • 1 TV with VCR, 1 TV with DVD/VCR in Current Periodicals Room to be used by patrons checking out DVD's and videos from S&E protect.
  • 7 group-study rooms - keys must be checked out from the reserve desk, minimum of two people.
