About outreach
The McHenry Library Outreach Program works in partnership with UCSC academic and student-life programs in an effort to reach underrepresented students.
Some of our most successful efforts in library outreach include instructional components in programs offered by Educational Opportunity Programs, for example, Summer Bridge, serving entering first year students, and Faculty Mentorship Program, in which students engage in research projects under the guidance of faculty and librarians. We have also offered research support and library instruction in coordination with the Ethnic Resource Centers, International Programs and Activities, Admissions Outreach (K-12), as well as many other agencies on campus and in the local community.
If your group, organization, or you as an individual would like to make an appointment contact the outreach services coordinator for information.
How we can help
- Instruction: Instruction in the use of the library and it's resources is a major component of outreach services. These sessions consist of an overview of library services, an introduction to the research process and reference materials, and instruction in the use of the library's online resources.
- Specialized workshops: Programs with an emphasis in academic research have received specialized workshops on various library research topics. Examples of these sessions include online research (the Web and/or specialized databases), how to read a journal, organizing research, and introduction to Government Publications.
- Tours: Tours of the library include a general orientation and may include presentations from specialized library units, such as Special Collections, the Film and Music Center, and Government Publications.
- Drop-in Workshops: As part of reference service's commitment to instruction, the department offers specialized drop-in workshops that are open to the public. Visit the schedule of workshops for more information.
