NO: Go to #2.

2. IS THERE A GOLD ICON?

YES: Click on it. Go to #3.

NO: Go to #4.

3. NOW IS THERE LINK UNDER "GET IT ONLINE"?

YES: Click on the link, find the article and read it, print it, or e-mail it.

NO: Go to #4.

4. DO WE HAVE THE JOURNAL IN PRINT AT UCSC?
(Click on the "Check the UCSC Catalog: CRUZCAT" link in the menu.)

YES:
IN PRINT: Look for the call number, location, and make sure we have the volume and date that you need in the "LIB. HAS" line. Go to the shelf, pull the volume, and read the article or make a photocopy.

ONLINE: Take a look at the "Library has available online" link(s) and see if your volume/issue/year is covered. If so, click on the link to go to the full text. If not, see the PRINT paragraph below.

NO: It says "Your entry...would be here" means that we do not subscribe to this journal. Try a title search for the name of the journal to be sure we don't have it. If still no, then go to #5.

5. DO YOU HAVE TIME FOR INTERLIBRARY LOAN (a free service for current UCSC students, faculty, and staff)?

YES: If you have 2+ working days to wait for an article, click on the "Request it from another library" link. Fill out the information on the Request form. You'll receive an e-mail with a link to the article or more information from Interlibrary Loan staff.

NO: Go to #6.

6. ARE THERE OTHER ARTICLES IN THE RESULTS?

YES: Take a look at them to see if any others would work for you.

NO: Look at the subject headings for ideas, or try different keywords. Go to #7.

7. ARE YOU OUT OF IDEAS AND NEED MORE HELP?

Ask for help from the McHenry Library Reference Desk or Science & Engineering Library Reference Desk, or submit your question to Ask A Librarian online.
