RiP!: A Remix Manifesto is a documentary that explores the the world of mash-up media - is it illegal? Is it art? Is it important? See and hear Girl Talk (mashup artist Gregg Gillis) and his tools in action, and hear lawyers, musicians, and other cultural commentators discuss how copyright law controls how we use existing culture to build new culture.
Why is the system set up the way it is? Does it work? Who is it working for? The movie focuses on music and film, but the arguments about the role of copyright in our society and who should control intellectual property can apply to novels, art, scholarly articles or software - anything covered by copyright law (which is a lot of stuff).
