McHenry Library construction: update on tar and diesel fumes

This week and next you may be noticing tar and diesel fumes coming from construction activity on the west side of the building.

The following message is from Project Manager, Brett Caton:

"I just talked to the Contractor. They indicated that the roofing tar will be in use through the end of next week (06/29). They have located the kettle on the far south west corner of the Addition; as far from the occupied building (and the building air intakes) as possible. We suggest that windows be kept closed (as weather permits).

I understand that a diesel generator has been relocated and should no longer impact the existing building."

McHenry Library summer collection cleaning

This summer the University Library will undertake a project to clean all of the books and journals housed in McHenry Library. This is being done to prepare the volumes for relocation into the McHenry Addition at the end of this year or early next year.

Multiple teams of cleaning crews will be working between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm in all areas of the building. Books will remain fully accessible and no floors will be closed off.

We appreciate your understanding of this important collection maintenance project.

McHenry Library: construction photos June 12, 2007

Here are a few recent construction photos, taken by Eric Baker. They show the roof going on, walls going up, and windows going in. One photo shows where the existing building and the addition abut at the roof line.
