The photos below show the rebar for the eastern half of the McHenry Addition foundation slab. The concrete pour will take place on Wednesday, August 16th. Due to the size of the job, which could take up to 20 hours, the second pour for the western half will be done separately. Las Animas Concrete of Santa Cruz will be bringing in approximately 2000 cubic yards of concrete altogether, at 9 yards per truck load, every 5 minutes. There will be about 220 truck trips that will enter through the south construction access, and exit to the north along the west side of McHenry Library and out Steinhart Way (in front of McHenry Library). Work will start early and end late.
Normally, construction traffic would not use the north side of the library but due to the needs of turn around space, staging and the volume of traffic, next Wednesday will be an exception. To maintain structural integrity the pour has to be without interruption, so consistent flow of the concrete trucks is crucial. Pedestrian and bike access should follow the alternate route to destinations south of McHenry Library (Baskin Arts, Performing Arts, Music Center) by going around Kerr Hall.
