Second concrete pour on September 6th for the addition to McHenry Library

The second large concrete pour will be occurring at the McHenry Library project on Wednesday, September 6th.

Up to 14 concrete trucks per hour will be arriving at the site beginning at 5:00 AM and continuing for 10 - 12 hours. The trucks will follow the route indicated on the enclosed route map.

We do not anticipate any road closures....just heavy truck traffic.

We anticipate that all future concrete pours on this project will be much smaller and should not have a noticeable impact on campus circulation.

McHenry Addition concrete pour and truck traffic on Wednesday, August 16th

The photos below show the rebar for the eastern half of the McHenry Addition foundation slab. The concrete pour will take place on Wednesday, August 16th. Due to the size of the job, which could take up to 20 hours, the second pour for the western half will be done separately. Las Animas Concrete of Santa Cruz will be bringing in approximately 2000 cubic yards of concrete altogether, at 9 yards per truck load, every 5 minutes. There will be about 220 truck trips that will enter through the south construction access, and exit to the north along the west side of McHenry Library and out Steinhart Way (in front of McHenry Library). Work will start early and end late.

Normally, construction traffic would not use the north side of the library but due to the needs of turn around space, staging and the volume of traffic, next Wednesday will be an exception. To maintain structural integrity the pour has to be without interruption, so consistent flow of the concrete trucks is crucial. Pedestrian and bike access should follow the alternate route to destinations south of McHenry Library (Baskin Arts, Performing Arts, Music Center) by going around Kerr Hall. For more information on alternate routes and parking, please visit the Parking Office page.

Temporary limited path access west and south of McHenry Library due to tree cutting

Tree cutting and removal is now happening on the west side of McHenry Library. Pedestrian and bike path access to destinations to the south of the library is temporarily limited due to brush clean up and a crane being used to lift trees out of the gulch. Although access will be intermittent, if you're travelling to or from Baskin Arts, Performing Arts or the Music Center, you may have to use an alternate route through or around Kerr Hall for the next day or so. The tree removal should be completed this week.
