The UCSC Wall Map Collection consists of over 400 wall maps covering all seven
continents and many points in time. The collection includes political, topographic,
geologic, and thematic wall maps. Wall maps are available for quarter-long checkout by university faculty, and can be used by all during regular Map Room hours.
Wall maps are cataloged in CRUZCAT. You may browse the Wall Map Collection or search for a map in the collection by limiting your search with the subject: Teaching--Aids and devices--Maps. A page has been set up with these limits already applied. All you need to do is add words in the title, author, or subject to narrow down your search.
We have put together a page with previews of some of the wall maps in our collection.
The information provided by these colorful and detailed maps helps
enliven and invigorate classroom discussions, providing greater
opportunities to engage students in active discourse. By showing
students the connection between people, places, and geography,
teachers can captivate students' imaginations and broaden their
understanding of the issues at hand. Maps improve students' ability to identify causal
connections, draw conclusions, and evaluate alternative courses of
action by providing the geographic background needed for better understanding of the subject of the
lecture.
