| Preferred Method of Requesting | Depends on requesting library's time frame; if needed quickly and it's map or air photo, requests may be made directly by map-library staff to MIL staff. |
| Lending Policies | Only other UC/Stanford map library staff may request materials directly from MIL, and ONLY maps and air photos may be requested; all book-format material must be requested through central ILL. Air-photo prints will be sent only if they are from the UC/Stanford shared purchase; photocopies will be sent of all other prints. MIL has a high-end color copier that makes excellent copies of prints. Transparencies are not copiable by any copier in-house; users must either come to Santa Barbara or order prints from the transparencies from Pacific Western. Check with MIL staff on costs, etc; there is a fee for non-UC use (either by non-UC persons, or by UC persons for non-UC use, e.g., consulting work). In the case of expensive materials, or materials that cannot be replaced, MIL will send photocopies (in color as appropriate); users will be expected to do the taping together of the maps in many cases. When actual items, instead of photocopies, are sent, they must be used in the map library." |
