Copying Aerial Photographs

Aerial photos are subject to copyright law. Photos produced by commercial agencies are subject to copying limitations. However, the majority of our photos are from government agencies and are not subject to copyright restrictions.

Photocopying Aerials
The Map Room has a high-quality photocopier that can make copies up to 11" x 17".
It takes coins, $1 bills, or the copy cards sold on campus. (There are no change machines in the library.)

Copies are 10¢ each using money, and 8¢ each using a card.

Scanning Aerials
A scanner is available for use with Map Room materials.

Scanning is not a speedy process: it takes 5 to 10 minutes per scan. We will reserve the scanner for you for up to a 2 hour period if you phone us (459-2364). Scanned images may be written to a zip disk, transferred via FTP, or copied to a blank CD-ROM disk. Large files and/or a large number of files can take a long time to transfer via FTP or copy to a CD. Be sure to leave adequate time in your planning. If you plan to use the CD burner, you must bring a pre-formatted blank CD-ROM, as formatting a CD can take a long time. We do not recommend CD-RWs (re-writable) for this purpose; they can take up to 90 minutes to format.
