<p><a href="http://www.library.gsu.edu">Georgia State University Library </a>is part of a dynamic urban university<br />
in the heart of Atlanta. With approximately one million visitors this<br />
past year, the Library is an important partner in teaching and research<br />
at the University with over 1.3 million volumes and an environment which<br />
encourages active learning and study. The Library employs a<br />
self-motivated staff of over 100 FTE who have the opportunity to work<br />
with a diverse faculty and student population, as well as participate in<br />
Library and University governance. The Library collections reflect the<br />
needs of the University, and the Library is engaged in several digital<br />
initiatives designed to provide access to an array of scholarly<br />
information.</p>

<p>The University Library seeks a second committed and energetic science<br />
librarian to provide innovative teaching and research support to the<br />
following departments: Biology, Physics & Astronomy, and<br />
<strong>GeoSciences/Maps.</strong> For these departments of responsibility, the librarian<br />

<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong><br />
This position works collaboratively with the science liaison for<br />
Chemistry. The successful candidate will provide research assistance and<br />
instruction to students and faculty in the assigned departments; deliver<br />
quality, in-depth reference and consultation services and collection<br />
development in the assigned subject areas; promote the library and<br />
information literacy; and foster communication between the science<br />
departments and the library. Liaison librarians assist with the general<br />
reference service that includes desk and virtual reference hours and are<br />
responsible for occasional weekend and evening hours. As faculty<br />
members, liaison librarians serve on library committees and engage in<br />
scholarly activities.</p>

<p><strong>Requirements</strong><br />
ALA-accredited master*s degree in information/library science and<br />
relevant professional experience in one of the advertised subject areas.<br />
Familiarity with resources in a variety of formats, skill in use of<br />
technology and web based applications, excellent communication,<br />
presentation and interpersonal skills. <strong>PREFERRED:</strong> Second Master*s<br />
Degree in appropriate subject area. Experience in Collection Development<br />
in one of the subject areas is strongly preferred. Demonstrated interest<br />

<p>The Pennsylvania State University Libraries seeks an energetic<br />
librarian, interested in actively contributing to a wide range of<br />
library initiatives, to join the Fletcher L. Byrom Earth and Mineral<br />
Sciences Library ( <a href="http://www.libraries.psu.edu/emsl">http://www.libraries.psu.edu/emsl</a>). This branch<br />
library primarily serves the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences,<br />
which offers degrees in geography, geosciences, meteorology, materials<br />
sciences, energy and mineral engineering.  This is a 12-month<br />
tenure-track faculty position, which has concomitant responsibilities<br />
for research and service, and reports to the Head of the Earth and<br />
Mineral Sciences Library.  The Science Librarian is expected to be<br />
involved in all aspects of library operations - reference, circulation,<br />
collection development and management - as well as faculty liaison,<br />
instruction, research, and public and professional service.</p>

<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong> Requires a MLS from an ALA-accredited institution or<br />
equivalent; academic background or relevant experience in one of the<br />
subject fields of the College, engineering, or the sciences; and<br />

<p>The Library seeks a Curator whose experience and professional<br />
contributions to the field beyond the local level demonstrate readiness<br />
to shape the Yale Map Collection and guide the Yale Library in the<br />
implementation of new systems for supporting research and teaching using<br />
geographic information.</p>

<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>

<p>Under the direction of the Associate University Librarian with<br />
responsibility for research and educational services, the Curator serves<br />
as the Library's principal authority on the subject of maps in all media<br />
and formats. The Curator directs the day-to-day activities of the Yale<br />
Map Collection. In addition to selecting material for the Collection,<br />
managing its budget, and leading its staff, the Curator works closely<br />
with colleagues throughout the Library to oversee cataloging and<br />
preservation of maps in the Collection, to offer reference and<br />
instructional services for the Collection, and to provide tours,<br />
exhibitions, and publications based on the Collection. In addition, the<br />
Curator works with others in the Library and University to plan and<br />
implement appropriate levels of security for the collections while at<br />
the same time providing appropriate access for readers. The Curator will<br />
be expected to serve as a resource for colleagues throughout the Library<br />
who have responsibility for cartographic materials. <br />
Working closely with other Yale librarians and with Yale faculty and students, <br />
the Curator will take a lead role in coordinating the Library's overall collection<br />
building and service programs related to maps and cartography, as well<br />
as the Library’s efforts to apply new technologies to the description,<br />
storage, access, preservation, and manipulation of cartographic<br />
materials and geographic information. The Curator will also be<br />
responsible for contributing to the development and pursuit of overall<br />
Yale Library goals, objectives, and policies, as well as for<br />
contributing to map librarianship at the local and national levels.</p>

<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>

<p>Masters degree from an ALA-accredited program in library and information<br />
science or equivalent experience required; completed graduate degree<br />
required, preferably in discipline related to the position. Minimum of<br />
five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in an<br />
academic or comparable research institution related to maps, and<br />
demonstrated professional achievements and services. Demonstrated<br />
successful managerial and leadership experience including demonstrated<br />
ability to plan and implement projects and services, lead library staff,<br />
and work effectively with other members of a research-oriented<br />
community. Knowledge of emerging information technologies, especially<br />
those supporting geographic information systems, is expected. Experience<br />
in providing classroom instruction at the college level and knowledge of<br />
trends related to rare maps, special collections management and<br />
services, and GIS are strongly preferred. Appointment at the Librarian<br />
IV or V level requires 8 or 12 years of professional experience,<br />
respectively, and professional accomplishment. Strong analytical skills;<br />
excellent oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated<br />
commitment to providing excellent customer services are essential.</p>

<p>The U. S. Geological Survey (USGS), a bureau of the U.S. Department of<br />
the Interior, invites applications for the position of Director, Earth<br />
Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center. Located in Sioux Falls,<br />
South Dakota, the <a href="http://edc.usgs.gov/">EROS </a>Center is one of the largest centers in the USGS<br />
and carries out the vital mission of informing government leaders,<br />
scientists, and the public about the state of the Earth by means of<br />
satellite and aerial imagery. <br />
The EROS Center operates two satellites,<br />
Landsat 5 and Landsat 7, and their worldwide infrastructure of ground<br />
receiving stations. EROS is also the major support center for developing<br />
next generation earth observing satellite systems in cooperation with<br />
NASA and is currently planning to have mission control for Landsat 8 on<br />
site. In addition, EROS is responsible for archiving, interpreting, and<br />
distributing earth observation data from USGS and other agencies and for<br />
conducting scientific research in the areas of global change, land cover<br />
characterization, ecosystem science, and land imaging data and systems<br />

<p><strong>Position Duties </strong><br />
Under the general supervision of the Head of CRIS, the incumbent is responsible for the geospatial data collections in the social  sciences and humanities and developing and managing the library’s map collections. The incumbent will provide specialized research services and information literacy sessions to students and faculty in Geography and Urban Planning, and serve as the primary <br />
contact/liaison between the library and the departments. </p>

<p>Required Qualifications <br />
- ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library or Information Science OR significant graduate-level coursework toward such a degree OR equivalent education and experience (subject expertise combined with professional library education and/or experience). <br />
- Graduate degree in Geography, Urban Planning, or related discipline and research level knowledge of the subject disciplines of Geography and Urban Planning. <br />
-  Knowledge and understanding of research needs and the organization of scholarly materials in Geography and Urban Planning. <br />
-  Experience working in an academic or research library map collection and demonstrated knowledge of how maps can be employed to answer reference questions and research needs. <br />
- Extensive knowledge of how map collections can be organized according to the LC G schedule and knowledge and experience in how geospatial data and cartographic materials are published (both digital and print). <br />
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in all aspects of geospatial data collection, map librarianship, and the provision of geographic information systems within an academic library setting. <br />
-  Advanced knowledge of technology related to geospatial informatics and GIS. <br />
- Ability to provide geospatial data and GIS segments for instruction. <br />
- Ability to provide reference service and instruction for the cartographic resources in a variety of situations including classroom settings, small group settings, and one on one consultations. <br />
- Knowledge and understanding of scholarly research, publishers, and publishing and the economics of scholarly publishing and issues in scholarly communication. <br />

<p>Western Illinois University Libraries seeks an innovative and user-oriented<br />
Government Information and Data Services Librarian to become part of their<br />
exciting transformation into a digital information commons. The successful<br />
candidate will plan, develop, and deliver government information and spatial<br />
and numeric data services across the university.</p>

<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS: </strong>ALA-accredited master's degree. A sixth-year specialist<br />
degree in librarianship or an advanced / professional degree must be<br />
completed within one year of initial appointment. Experience with using U.S.<br />
government information resources. Experience using GIS or demonstrated<br />
interest in learning GIS (GIS educational opportunities will be available<br />
through WIU's Geography Department classes and commercial vendor workshops).<br />
