APPOINTMENT: Negotiable.

Western Illinois University Libraries seeks an innovative and user-oriented
Government Information and Data Services Librarian to become part of their
exciting transformation into a digital information commons. The successful
candidate will plan, develop, and deliver government information and spatial
and numeric data services across the university.

QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited master's degree. A sixth-year specialist
degree in librarianship or an advanced / professional degree must be
completed within one year of initial appointment. Experience with using U.S.
government information resources. Experience using GIS or demonstrated
interest in learning GIS (GIS educational opportunities will be available
through WIU's Geography Department classes and commercial vendor workshops).
Reference experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Map library experience. Federal Depository Library
Program experience. Experience evaluating online government information for
inclusion in library Web pages. Experience providing bibliographic
instruction in an academic library. Familiarity with using: SPSS or other
data analysis software applications; international government organization
resources; and legal reference resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Government Information and Data Services Librarian is
responsible for the continued development of the Library GIS/map services.
Working closely with library colleagues, the Government Information and Data
Services Librarian participates in the selection, organization, and delivery
of data collections.
Other responsibilities include:
serves as liaison to academic departments; participates in reference and instruction; works
collaboratively with the Government Documents Librarian to insure access to
government information; participates in government information outreach
activities to the University and surrounding communities; contributes in
departmental and library planning; serves on library-wide and University
committees; and completes research and service activities to achieve tenure
and promotion.

The Libraries of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) seek
applications from innovative and user-oriented library professionals to join
the enthusiastic staff of the Social Sciences and Humanities Library in the
development of data services and collections. The UCSD Libraries are
committed to making access to research information for faculty and students
as efficient and convenient as technology, innovation, and resources will allow.

Responsibilities of the Position Reporting to the Head for Data, Government
and Geographic Information Services, assumes a leadership role in planning
and developing data services and collections at UCSD. Evaluates, selects,
and acquires data products for the Social Science Data Collection (SSDC).
Provides consultations and instruction on finding and using data. Works
closely with faculty to determine data needs and discovery tools. Actively
collaborates with library liaisons to academic departments to develop and
provide coordinated services to meet the full range of social science data
needs at UCSD. Plans and implements staff training programs related to data.
Serves as the liaison to ICPSR and DDI initiatives. Provides general
reference assistance at a combined social sciences/ humanities and
government documents reference desk. Some evening and weekend reference
hours required. Represent the UCSD Libraries at pertinent meetings and
conferences. UCSD Librarians are expected to participate in library-wide
planning and professional activities appropriate to their position.
Appointment at the Librarian rank requires substantial relevant experience
and superior qualifications.

information commons the Data Services Librarian plans, develops, and
delivers spatial and numeric data resources and services across the
university. The Data Services Librarian is responsible for the continued
development of the Library GIS/map services.
Working closely with library
colleagues the Data Services Librarian participates in the selection,
organization, and delivery of data collections and supports the development
of undergraduate and graduate statistical literacy skills through reference
and instruction. Other responsibilities include: serves as liaison to
academic departments and extension services such as the Illinois Institute
for Rural Affairs and Kibbe Life Science Station; works collaboratively with
the Government Documents Librarian to assure access to state, federal, and
international government information data resources; participates in
departmental and library planning; and serves on library-wide and University
committees, task forces, and teams.
