The University of Wyoming Libraries is seeking applicants for the Head
of the Brinkerhoff Geology Library, a branch library located in the
Geology Department. The Geology library houses materials related to
earth and energy sciences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide vision and leadership for The Geology Library. Oversee library
operations and work flow. Establish priorities for the Library. Train,
supervise and evaluate two staff positions. Represent the Geology
Library to other library units and to external constituencies.

Serve as bibliographer for the Geology Department and the newly
established School of Energy Resources. Manage and develop the map
collection. Evaluate gift materials and make preservation
recommendations. Prioritize digitization of assets unique to University
of Wyoming.

Deliver reference services for the geology, energy resources and map
collections. Deliver instructional services to students and faculty
including course-related instruction and one-on-one consultations.
Provide training for colleagues in the use of specialized resources.

As a member of the library faculty, pursue an active and ongoing program
of professional development, scholarship and service. Report to the
Associate Dean of Libraries

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
MLS from an ALA accredited institution. Minimum of five years of
successful, progressively responsible professional experience. Knowledge
and understanding of the research needs and the organization of
scholarly materials in Geology and Energy Resources. Demonstrated
ability to work effectively as a manager, including budget and personnel
management. Experience working with maps. Excellent communication,
interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A graduate or undergraduate degree in geology, geography, cartography,
earth sciences or energy sciences. Experience in a medium to large
academic library. Working knowledge of GIS. Experience with government
publications. Knowledge of map cataloging practices. Experience working
with library donors and friends. Strong record of professional
accomplishment.

experience; 12-month appointment, 22 days vacation; sick leave, group

Director, USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center

The U. S. Geological Survey (USGS), a bureau of the U.S. Department of
the Interior, invites applications for the position of Director, Earth
Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center. Located in Sioux Falls,
South Dakota, the EROS Center is one of the largest centers in the USGS
and carries out the vital mission of informing government leaders,
scientists, and the public about the state of the Earth by means of
satellite and aerial imagery.
The EROS Center operates two satellites,
Landsat 5 and Landsat 7, and their worldwide infrastructure of ground
receiving stations. EROS is also the major support center for developing
next generation earth observing satellite systems in cooperation with
NASA and is currently planning to have mission control for Landsat 8 on
site. In addition, EROS is responsible for archiving, interpreting, and
distributing earth observation data from USGS and other agencies and for
conducting scientific research in the areas of global change, land cover
characterization, ecosystem science, and land imaging data and systems
research.

The EROS workforce of approximately 700 highly specialized
personnel is composed of approximately 90 government staff complemented
by a larger group of contract employees. The current operating budget of
the Center is approximately $75 million. The EROS Center Director
reports directly to the USGS Associate Director for Geography and works
closely with other USGS leaders to frame and implement appropriate
multi-disciplinary projects for EROS. The EROS Director is responsible
for certifying the overall scientific merit of the Center's programs,
for ensuring that tasks are completed on time and on budget, and for
overseeing consistent application of U.S. government law and policy
regarding ethics, finance, acquisition, contract management, safety,
equal employment opportunity, employee training, and performance
evaluation. The position requires advanced knowledge of government
management principles, space system engineering, information technology,
geography, and remote sensing science. The Director’s leadership, as
reflected in the accomplishments and performance of the EROS Center,
affects national and international land imaging policy and activities,
as well as natural resource management decisions.
