The UCLA Library’s Collections, Research & Instructional Services (CRIS)Department seeks a creative, collaborative, flexible, and forward-thinking individual for a position that will shape the future of cartographic resources and GIS library collections and services, coordinate collection management activities, and provide specialized research services and information literacy sessions to students and
faculty in Geography and Urban Planning.

Salary and appointment level based on experience and qualifications
* Associate Librarian Rank ($44,736–$66,756)
* Librarian ($66,756-$85,740)

Position Duties
Under the general supervision of the Head of CRIS, the incumbent is responsible for the geospatial data collections in the social sciences and humanities and developing and managing the library’s map collections. The incumbent will provide specialized research services and information literacy sessions to students and faculty in Geography and Urban Planning, and serve as the primary
contact/liaison between the library and the departments.

Required Qualifications
- ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library or Information Science OR significant graduate-level coursework toward such a degree OR equivalent education and experience (subject expertise combined with professional library education and/or experience).
- Graduate degree in Geography, Urban Planning, or related discipline and research level knowledge of the subject disciplines of Geography and Urban Planning.
- Knowledge and understanding of research needs and the organization of scholarly materials in Geography and Urban Planning.
- Experience working in an academic or research library map collection and demonstrated knowledge of how maps can be employed to answer reference questions and research needs.
- Extensive knowledge of how map collections can be organized according to the LC G schedule and knowledge and experience in how geospatial data and cartographic materials are published (both digital and print).
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in all aspects of geospatial data collection, map librarianship, and the provision of geographic information systems within an academic library setting.
- Advanced knowledge of technology related to geospatial informatics and GIS.
- Ability to provide geospatial data and GIS segments for instruction.
- Ability to provide reference service and instruction for the cartographic resources in a variety of situations including classroom settings, small group settings, and one on one consultations.
- Knowledge and understanding of scholarly research, publishers, and publishing and the economics of scholarly publishing and issues in scholarly communication.
- Demonstrated proficiency and capabilities with personal computers and software, the Web, and library-relevant information technology applications.
