The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a General Reference Librarian with additional responsibilities for maps and geospatial data to join the Davis Library Reference Department for a one-year appointment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in an ARL Library in a department that combines state-of-the-art technology with traditional reference services.
The General Reference Librarian will share in providing traditional reference service, including nights and weekends, as well as virtual reference through chat and e-mail. The person in this position will develop and deliver high quality outreach and instructional services to faculty, students, and scholars in assigned academic disciplines to support the discovery, use, and integration of the library's collections into research and the curriculum. The General Reference Librarian will also work on web pages, subject guides, and special projects as needed. As a Maps and GIS specialist, the librarian will assist in the integration of the Maps Collection into the Reference Department and assist the GIS librarian with GIS related questions.
The General Reference Librarian reports to the Head of the Reference Desk Section of the Davis Reference Department. In addition to the Reference Desk section, the Reference Department includes Government Documents, the Maps Collection, Electronic Reference Services, GIS services and a Collection Management section. Qualifications
Required:
ALA-accredited Masters degree or an advanced degree in a discipline with an emphasis on spatial data; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; A strong commitment to public service; and the ability to work as part of a team with diverse groups in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Preferred:
Experience providing effective reference service; experience with chat reference; experience with GIS, maps, and statistical data; experience with HTML and the creation of web pages; experience with a variety of electronic reference tools in various formats (including web-based, CD-ROM, and/or data sets).

Salary and Benefits
This is a twelve-month fixed term appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Standard state benefits of annual leave, sick leave, and State or optional retirement plan.
