- GPO announced the Annual Item Selection Update Cycle, which is your opportunity to add item numbers to depository library selection profiles. From June 1 through July 31, 2007, depositories may make additions, which will take effect on October 1, 2007. David Cismowski, Senior Librarian in the
Government Publications Section of the California State Library,
a Federal Regional Depository, posted an enlightening discussion of
selecting both paper and electronic versions to CALDOC-L.
- Browsable Directory added to the David Rumsey Map Collection: A new directory feature allows users to browse the entire collection of about
16,000 digitized maps by what, where, who, and when.
- The FEMA Map Service Center announced that revisions will

- The Interior Department Seeks Nominations for the National Geospatial Advisory Committee. The NGAC is being created to advise the Federal government on the management of national geospatial programs and the development of the
National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI). More on this.
- Take the twisting lines of contour and iconography of a U.S. Geological Survey topographical map, blend in a high-resolution aerial photograph, and you'll get a TopoPhoto, a new type of map from MyTopo.com.

- The Open Geospatial Consortium Inc. has approved a specification for modeling digital-rights agreements for geospatial data. Read the article from Government Computer News

is found by scrolling down the home page.
- The global disease alert mapping system, HealthMap, allows you to view maps and links to articles about current health issues such as Avian flu, e. coli outbreaks or salmonella.

The 2007 Map Expo and Annual Meeting of the Road Map Collectors Association (RMCA ) takes place in the Dallas suburb of Irving, Texas, on Sept. 21-22. All events take place at the Hilton Garden Inn at Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport (South).
The event is being held in conjunction with the Texas Map Society and their exhibit, "Texas Road Maps and Motoring History." RMCA registration

USGS Pilot Project Makes High-Quality Landsat Data Available Through Web
at EarthExplorer.

The U.S. Geological Survey and the federal interagency MultiResolution Land Characteristics Consortium (MRLC) recently announced the completion of a massive database that describes the land surface condition of each 30-meter cell of land
in the conterminous United States. Nearly six such
cells - each 98 feet long and wide - would fit on a football field. The 2001 National Land Cover Database (NLCD 2001) and its products are available at http://www.mrlc.gov/.
