  • USGS and NASA released the TerraLook Data Product, a
    user-specified collection of JPEG images created from Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) images from the NASA Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center, and Tri-Decadal Global Landsat Orthorectified images from the USGS archive.

    TerraLook images are designed for visual interpretation and display, and are of value to anyone who wants to see the changes to the Earth’s surface over the last 30 years.

  • More USGS news: Historic Map Scan Loader Application: Work has begun on a new "loader" application that will allow historic map scan products in GeoPDF format to be added to the Geospatial Data Architecture and made accessible via the USGS Store's Map Locator interface. This work is being conducted as a cooperative effort between Jeff Wendel, SIS, and Steve Skelton, National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC), and will serve the needs of both historic map scans and eventual graphic products from The National Map.   • Free NACIS membership to ten undergraduate students majoring in geography. Check it out here. NACIS is the North American Cartographic Information Society.

  • Marine Geodesy, An International Journal of Ocean Surveys, Mapping, and Sensing, published by Taylor & Francis, encourages submission of proposals of special issues and papers. Here's the whole scoop on topics, etc.
