Janet Collins is retiring!
Janet and Sylvia Bender in Denali, WAML Fall Meeting 2006
Janet Collins has announced her retirement from Western Washington University at the end of this quarter. Many of you enjoyed Janet's hospitality and program planning efforts at the Fall 2006 WAML Meeting in Flagstaff.
Janet's last day on campus will be March 28, and then she will move herself down to Arizona. She plans to spend the spring hiking and backpacking in the Grand Canyon, and then she'll move on to the Arctic Refuge and Gates of the Arctic National Park. In addition to these plans for "serious play time", Janet has designs on writing and fulfilling other obligations.
She wants us to know that she will continue to function as a WAMLite, and she sends her "deep appreciation for all of you and to WAML for 30+ years of kindness and support".
What more can I say at this moment? - other than Congratulations to Janet and Thanks for all of her contributions to WAML.
- Mary Douglass, WAML President 2007-08
Wendie Helms, WAML President 2006-07 wrote: My first memory of Janet Collins was at the
1997 Tempe, Arizona meeting where she led a discussion on GIS and digital mapping.
I was impressed with her energy and ability to get people to talk about what they were doing in
their map libraries. It was information I wanted and needed to know at that
time. More recently, in Spring 2005, I saw Janet taking on a leadership
role in the Map Libraries in Transition conference in Washington, D.C.
Janet is a caring and professional map librarian, and she gets things done.
