Mapping News from Portland and Utah

An elected regional government, Metro helps " make the region an extraordinary place to live, work, and play." Metro serves more than 1.4 million residents in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties, and the 25 cities in the Portland region. They've made available maps for the Portland metropolitan area produced by the Metro Data Resource Center. See:
http://www.metro-region.org/index.cfm/go/by.web/id=24876
They include county maps showing flood plains, wetlands, undeveloped land, and zoning. They have some GIS applications software, called MetroMap, available for public use.

Meanwhile, here in Utah, the Utah Geological Survey is planning to build an online map-based index to geologic mapping of Utah. It will eventually have links to scanned images of maps previously published by UGS and USGS. They will also be seeking the help of the University of Utah and Brigham Young University digital projects programs to possibly get scans of university geology thesis maps.
