COLLECTION
Housed at the Reserves Desk at McHenry Library is the Protected Collection, consisting of library material which needs protection not afforded by the general stacks, or is circulated for shorter periods of time. Current issues of some of the most popular or controversial serials are part of the Protected Collection and can be checked out for 2-hours from the Reserves Desk. Relevant campus documents are part of the Protected Collection. This is material that is not rare or valuable enough to be included in Special Collections. Anyone eligible for general library borrowing privileges may also use the Protected Collection. Protected Collection material has several different loan periods:
Material which circulates for 2 hours, 1 day, or 4 days is subject to the same fines as those for Reserve Books:
Material which circulates for 2 weeks is subject to the same billing rules as material from the general stacks:
Two-week material kept more than 30 days overdue will be billed for replacement in addition to the library processing charge. If the overdue material is returned after it is billed, replacement charges (but not processing charges) may be canceled or refunded. Holds may be placed on all Protected Collection material--one day in advance on all 2-hour, 1-day and 3-day material, and as far in advance as necessary on all two-week material. Holds may be placed in person at the desk anytime the library is open. Protected Collection material may be renewed as long as there are no holds in effect. Two-hour, 1-day, and 3-day material must be renewed in person. Two-week material may be renewed by phone. For your own protection, always return Protected Collection material directly to the Reserve Desk from which it was checked out. If it is left elsewhere in the library and returned late, or mutilated, or not returned at all, you will still be held responsible. Over 100 national and international titles are available. Information on holdings and the most recent issue received is available on CRUZCAT. Current issues (approximately 3-6 months) are maintained at the Reserve Book Desk of the McHenry Library until replaced by microfilm or discarded. The most recent issue of each title is displayed for patron use by the current periodical shelves on the first floor. Newspapers are for library use only. In addition, the World Wide Web station outside the Reserves Desk provides links to many full-text newspapers. |
