The Library has many materials in microform format, including newspapers, serials, books, theses, research collections, curriculum collections, United States documents, and maps. Most of these are housed in the Microforms Area; many government documents on microfiche are in the Government Publications area. The word "Microforms" included with the call number or notes in the Melvyl online catalog, or listed as "LOC" (location) in the CRUZCAT online catalog and the UCSC Serials List, usually indicates that the item will be found in the Microforms Area. If another location, such as "S&E" (Science & Engineering Library) is also given, the item will be found there. INDEXES To locate material on specific subjects in the Microforms Area, it is usually necessary to consult indexes or guides. Indexes to individual newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and The Times (London), are on Tables 13 and 14 in the Reference area. Additionally, the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal are available full-text through Proquest. Full text of many more newspaper titles is available through LexisNexis. The Congressional Information Service (CIS) indexes to congressional hearings are located in the Government Publications area. See the Reference Desk for further assistance with these resources. MICROFORM READERS There are three microfilm/fiche reader-printers, one microcard reader, and two non-printing microfilm readers in the Microforms Area. The cost per printout or copy is 20 cents per page. Xerox printing cards can be purchased from a vending machine located near the Government Publications desk, 2nd floor, McHenry Library. |
