Your UCSC photo ID card is your Library Card but you have to activate it first at the library circulation desk. Once your card is activated the barcode becomes your login for access to electronic journals and article databases from off campus. Your barcode also lets you request books and articles from other libraries via interlibrary loan.

You can access the online Library resources (electronic journals, databases, etc.) anywhere you have an internet connection by using the library’s “Off Campus Access” program (aka proxy server), once you have activated your library card. Go to http://oca.ucsc.edu/login for instructions. (No password is required for access on campus.)

To find journal articles on a topic, search a library article database. Find the database you need using our  Research Guides by Subject

UCeLINKS is the link between seeing a citation for an article in a database and actually getting to read it.

If we don’t have a book or journal article that you need, you can get it via Interlibrary loan, once you activate your library card. Articles are often delivered electronically to your desktop in about three working days. Books take a week or more. Request the items using our InterLibrary Loan serv

We have wireless Internet available throughout McHenry and the Science & Engineering Library via CRUZNET.

CRUZCAT is the library’s catalog. Use it to find books or to find out if we own a particular journal (search by journal name not article title). To find articles on a topic use an article database instead.

Looking for the “stacks”, books or older journals? Think “stairs” – In McHenry the stacks are on the third and fourth floors. Look at the signs on the wall near the stairs to see what call numbers are on what floors.  In the S&E Library, the stacks are on the first and third floors.

Wireless laptops with Microsoft Office can be checked out for use within the library. Ask at the circulation desk on the main level of both libraries.
