Many company directories use SIC codes to classify types of industry; search the 1987 version SIC manual by keyword to access descriptive information for 4-digit SIC codes.
NAICS is the new version of the SIC, but many sources continue to use SIC codes. Search for the 1997 NAICS code for an industry, or use the site's correspondence tables to find an SIC code's equivalent in NAICS.
