Essay Contest for UCSC Students

Book Collection Essay Contest - 2010

UCSC undergraduate students are invited to participate in the 43rd
Annual Book Collection Essay Contest sponsored by the Friends of
the UCSC Library.  Winners can look forward to including this honor
in their resumes and collecting a prize of up to $500.

Imagine a collection of books and other written or recorded sources
on a subject of global importance.  Then write an essay of up to
1,500 words describing the collection and explaining why your
topic is so important.

What influenced you to choose your topic? How did you approach
and perform the research necessary to create the collection? What
printed, recorded, and online sources inspired and informed you?

The annotated bibliography should include 25 items:  10 must be
books and the remainder may be books, films, videos, music, art, or
articles from newspapers or magazines.  Choose items that
illustrate your topic and enhance the scope of your collection.
