This endowment was established by UCSC alumna Carol Pilz Weisskopf in honor of her excellent scientific education and her enduring interest in the literary genre of science fiction. The endowment provides enriched support for UCSC library collections in science fiction, broadly defined, to include material currently defined as science fiction and the genre as it may broaden and change in the future. Income may be used to acquire a wide range of library materials in science fiction, including classic and contemporary examples of the genre, and also science fiction history and criticism and other related secondary works. Materials may be acquired in any appropriate current or future format, including books, short story collections, periodicals, reference sets, non-print media, electronic databases, and other information formats that may evolve in the future.
