The Purdue online writing lab (OWL) is maintained by the English Department, at Purdue University. It provides free access to a wealth of resources suitable for students needing advice on writing skills. These include clearly written handouts and online exercises on general academic writing, annotated bibliographies, citation and referencing styles and avoiding plagiarism.

Use the Advanced Search option to combine controlled subject terms with keyword terms.
While general topics in Anthropology will be well represented in indexes such as Academic Search Complete, Web of Science or Google Scholar, more specific topics should be researched using specialized discipline-based A&I databases. The content of the indexing or abstracting databases will also vary, some contain only citations while others provide abstracts or full-text.
Academic Search Complete
Database of articles in peer-reviewed journals, magazines, and news sources with full text journal coverage for nearly all academic areas of study. Coverage: 1990 - current.
Other databases at this EBSCOHost site include GreenFILE, Left Index, Alternative Press Index, Newspaper Source, and Regional Business News. You can opt to search across all of the Ebsco databases or selected databases. From any EBSCOhost database, click on the Choose Database link next to the database name.
From the pop-up screen, select the databases you want to include in your cross-search.
PAIS International
The Public Affairs Information Services International database contains citations to journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, grey literature, research reports, conference reports, publications of international agencies, microfiche, Internet material, and more.
Other databases at this CSA Illumina site include EconLit, Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management (EIS), Sociological Abstracts and WPSA. You can opt to search across all of the CSA databases, all databases within a discipline or selected databases. From any CSA database, use the Change option to select cross-search options.
Anthropology Plus
Provides extensive worldwide indexing of journal articles, reports, commentaries, edited works, and obituaries in the fields of social, cultural, and interdisciplinary studies. These resources allow you to search for words within the full-text of articles or citations but do not provide index terms nor directed field searching. It is therefore easy to get lost in too many irrelevant results. Use with caution after you have developed appropriate search terms in searching the Catalog and A&I databases.
JSTOR. Full-text academic journals from Volume1:1 (current 2-5 years embargoed). You can improve your chances of locating appropriate references searching within a subject collection: Archaeology (81 titles) and Anthropology (86 titles), Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (75 titles).

Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. Access World News offers full-text access to local, state, regional, and international newspapers. Start dates vary, ~1997+.
Proquest Newspapers (Current) Los Angeles Times, New York Times (includes book review and magazine sections), and the Wall Street Journal complete full-text in PDF.
Newspaper source (Ebscohost) Newspaper Source provides cover-to-cover full text for more than 40 (U.S.) & international newspapers. The database also contains selective full text for 389 regional (U.S.) newspapers.
