Statistics

A good amount of data and a number of reports may be obtained from government resources. Think about which agencies might be responsible for keeping data about the topic you are researching. For example, for labor data or reports, try the Bureau of Labor Statistics, or, if you are focusing on the banking industry, you might start with the Office of Thrift, or if you are focusing on trade issues, the Department of Commerce or the Census Bureau.

Remember, too, often several agencies are interested in different aspects of the same topic. For example, women and work, try both the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

If your focus is international, think about the United Nations and its agencies, or, the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, the European Union, ASEAN, etc., and search their sites for information.
