Covers: 1965 - current, though a few select journals are available from the 1940's and 1950's.
EconLitAvailable online to UCSC students, faculty, and staff.NOTE: this is a tough database to conquer, use this database when you are confident about your terminology, make use of the subject descriptors below, be prepared to spend some time with this database. EconLit is a searchable database of citations with selected abstracts of literature in economics. Includes coverage of major journals as well as articles in collective volumes (essays, proceedings, etc.), books, book reviews, dissertations, and working papers. This is a tough database to search. Look at the Econlit subject terms for help in constructing successful searches.

LexisNexis AcademicAvailable online to UCSC faculty, students, and staff. Formerly known as Lexis Nexis Academic Universe, this searchable full-text database is divided into five major content areas: News, Business, Legal Research, Medical Research, and Reference. The business section contains information on companies, business news, industries, and accounting. The reference materials include country profiles, polls and surveys, and biographies.

FREE: Census Data - Available online to all Web users. U.S. government census data.
FREE: American Fact Finder (AFF)Available online to all Web users. From the U.S. Census Bureau, this site is an excellent source of 1990 and 2000 population, housing, economic, and geographic data for the nation, states, counties cities and places. Use "Factsheets" for overview information about a geographic area, or select "Data Sets" for table of statistics on specific topics.

A good amount of data and a number of reports may be obtained from government resources. Think about which agencies might be responsible for keeping data about the topic you are researching. For example, for labor data or reports, try the Bureau of Labor Statistics, or, if you are focusing on the banking industry, you might start with the Office of Thrift, or if you are focusing on trade issues, the Department of Commerce or the Census Bureau.
Remember, too, often several agencies are interested in different aspects of the same topic. For example, women and work, try both the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

STAT-USA Library use only: McHenry Library Government Publications area Access requires login by Government Publications staff. Business, trade, and economic statistics from the US Department of Commerce. Comprised of two files: State of the Nation contains recent federal government data and indicators, and GLOBUS contains global business/trade leads including the National Trade Data Bank (NTDB). Some free access available here.
International Statistical Yearbook (ISY)Available online to students, faculty, and staff. Consists of national and international economic databases from: Eurostat, OECD, IMF, UNIDO, Citicorp, Deutsche Bundesbank, Statistisches Bundesamt, and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW).
SourceOECD StatisticsAvailable online to UCSC students, faculty, and staff. SourceOECD is the online library of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. UCSC has access to everything but the IEA databases. Topics include social services, migration, economic outlook, taxes, etc. Data may be downloaded in a variety of formats.
Rand CaliforniaAvailable online to UCSC students, faculty, and staff. Database of statistics on the state of California, its counties, and cities. Includes public policy, business, economy, demographics, education, and environmental research information. Also contains monthly reports on the California economy.

Making of the Modern Economy Available online to UCSC students, faculty and staff. Digital facsimiles of literature on economics and business published from the last half of the 15th century to the mid-19th century from the collections of the Goldsmiths' Library of Economic Literature at the University of London, England, and the Kress Collection of Business and Economics at the Harvard Business School; with supplementary materials from the Seligman Collection in the Butler Library at Columbia University, and from Sterling Library at Yale University. Collection contains materials on commerce, finance, social conditions, politics, trade and transport; documents the dynamics of Western trade and wealth; focuses on economics interpreted in the widest sense, including political science, history, sociology; special collections on banking, finance, transportation and manufacturing. Repec - is a collaborative effort of hundreds of volunteers in 63 countries to enhance the dissemination of research in economics. The heart of the project is a decentralized database of working papers, journal articles and software components. All RePEc material is freely available.
