Gather information about your country's general economic and political situation first. Good sources for obtaining the latter information include:
EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit) - get economic forecasts for your country's economies. Look at country commerce for overviews of business conditions in your country. Look at country risk service for economic issues impacting your company in the country you select. NOTE: click on the Enterprise Client Access link to use the database. - Europa, World Plus - country profile, history, economic overview, statistics, and directories (government, business, society).
- Political Risk Yearbook Online - ICRG publications, political and economic risk for countries.
- World Bank Country/Region Reports
- CIA World Fact Book - country overviews
- International country Risk Guide - information available up to 2002, located in the Film and Music Center, ask for Disk 2518.

- The Doing Business Project - World Bank and International Finance Corporation project. Search for your country and receive a breakdown of process and procedures as well as costs for conducting the processes and procedures required to set up your business. Look at rankings that compare ease of setting up businesses in different regions, check out regions that have implemented reforms to make setting up a business easier. Print out, or, read on-line, reports about doing business in different countries. Click on details under each country report to see specific requirements.
- GLOBUS available through STAT-USA (in-library use only) - access international market and country research materials. Browse the International Trade Library for information about labor trends.
- U.S. Department of State - "Doing Business in International Markets" offers guidance, names of agencies and support for starting a business overseas. Check out the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section and link to the different departments listed.
- Source OECD (click here for list of member countries) SourceOECD is the online library of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. UCSC has access to everything but the IEA portion of the database. Topics include social services, migration, economic outlook, taxes.
- FITA - Federation of International Trade Organizations. Check out the section on "entering international markets." And, spend some time in the Finance Portal.
- LANIC - Latin American Information Network (Business Section). Spend some time in the economics portion of the site, the business section of the site and the finance section of the site.

- Lexis-Nexis - Formerly known as Lexis Nexis Academic Universe, this searchable full-text database is divided into five major content areas: News, Business, Legal Research, Medical Research, and Reference. The news section contains the text of many regional, national, and international newspapers and other news sources. The business section contains information on companies, business news, industries, and accounting. The legal section contains extensive information on state and federal case law as well as law reviews and legal news. The reference materials include country profiles, polls and surveys, and biographies. The medical section indexes medical journals and health news sources. To find specific journal titles, click on the tab "Find Sources" and enter the name of the journal you are looking for.
- EBSCO Business Source Premier: many business magazines/journals use this database to find background about conducting business in your country, articles about business culture in your country, and EIU country reports. A sample of economics-focused titles are listed below. More are available. Search for a title in cruzcat OR in the publication lists within the databases to locate particular titles.
