Slide Circulation Policies

Loan & Viewing Policies for Slides

The Visual Resource Collection is a limited circulating collection. Only UCSC faculty and registered students may borrow slides for use in classes conducted on campus. Persons with staff, courtesy, or special cards may use the Collection only in McHenry Library. The Visual Resource Collection maintains two individual slide viewing carrels. During the renovation, our Viewing Room is not operational; please talk with VRC staff if you need special arrangements for slide viewing.

Loan Periods:

Faculty- One week
Students- Same day circulation

Loss or Replacement:

All borrowers are subject to billing for material which has not been returned to the Visual Resource Collection, or for material which has been lost or damaged. Borrowers are billed for an estimated replacement cost of the material plus an additional processing charge.

Student Viewing and Circulation:

Students must make appointments to view slides. Requests to view slides should be made one day in advance by phone (831-459-2791), in person, or by e-mail.
Students wishing to give class presentations on campus may preview slides selected from SlideCat. A list of the selected slides for preview must be given to the Collection staff one day in advance of scheduled viewing appointments.

Reserves:

Faculty members may place slides on reserve in two ways:
* For smaller classes, reserve slides may be viewed at the Visual Resource Collection's individual viewing stations.
* For larger classes, faculty may use ARTstor to set up image reserves. See Image Reserves using ARTstor: a guide for instructors to get started. Contact VRC staff if you need assistance. Please send us a request to activate your faculty privilege level in ARTstor after you have created an ARTstor user account.
