- The Campus Maps site has excellent maps with driving, parking, and public transportation information for common destinations around the UCSC campus.
Science & Engineering Library:
As you approach the UCSC campus main entrance, turn left at High Street and use the west entrance. From Heller Drive, turn right onto McLaughlin Drive.
There will be signs pointing to the Science & Engineering Library on the right. Public parking is limited in this area. Visitors with parking permits may use the Core West parking garage on the corner of Heller Drive and McLaughlin Drive. Designated spots on the second floor of the garage are available for hourly parking. Maps and more information can be found on the campus maps site.
McHenry Library:
As of March 31, 2008, services are offered in the McHenry Library Addition and the original building will be closed for seismic renovation until late 2010. For the most current directions and parking availability, check the campus maps site or with the information kiosk at the campus main entrance.
During the renovation, the entrance to the building will be located on the south side of the building.
Pedestrian Access: From the west side of campus, take the walking path and stairs from the Academic Resources Center (ARC) and Baskin Visual Arts Center. From Steinhart Way and Science Hill, take the boardwalk path toward the Hahn Student Services Building. Turn right before crossing the bridge to Hahn and follow the boardwalk around the addition to the library entrance at the southwest corner of the building. From the east side of campus (Bay Tree Bookstore and Cowell College), walk to the southwest corner of Hahn and cross the footbridge, then turn left and follow the signs to the southwest entrance of McHenry.
Vehicle Access: As you approach the UCSC campus main entrance, turn left at High Street and use the west entrance. From Heller Drive, turn right at Meyer Drive and follow the road around the Performing Arts parking lot to the one-lane, signal-controlled road near the Academic Resources Center. Follow the one-lane road to the bottom of the hill where you'll find metered parking, medical permit parking, and bike racks. From there, you can walk along the curved foot path up the hill to the library entrance. Metered parking in campus lots requires payment until 8:30 p.m. weekdays.
There are two additional disabled parking spots next to the library entrance. Continue up the road toward the library building and look for the two spots directly in front of the doors. Deliveries should continue on the service road around the back of the building. The loading dock is under the stairs.
The nearest permit parking lot is the Performing Arts lot. "A" permits are required for this lot 7 days per week. Permits can be purchased from the TAPS Information Kiosk at the base of campus (corner of Bay and High streets). A pay stations that dispenses $2.00 permits is located in the Performing Arts Lot to accommodate evening parking for that lot. To get to the library after parking, follow the stairs near the ARC in the northeast corner of the lot.
Visitors may also use the Hahn parking lot. Enter campus through the main entrance. Turn left at Hagar Drive. Turn left at the first stop sign, near the Bay Tree Bookstore plaza. Follow the road and veer left into the Hahn parking lot. Meters are available for hourly parking, and permits are available for purchase at the main entrance kiosk. Permits are enforced weekdays until 8:30pm; a pay station is available to purchase permits after 5pm. Parking in this lot is free on weekends. To get to the library after parking, take the bridge behind the Hahn building and follow the temporary walkway all the way around the McHenry Addition.
