  New Reference Service at McHenry
Reference Desk staff at McHenry Library will begin trial of a new instant messaging (IM) reference service beginning Monday, 28 July. By using a widget for IM service Meebo attached to the library's Research page (http://library.ucsc.edu/research.html), patrons will be able to get immediate reference help from remote locations throughout the library and beyond. The trial will continue through the summer, with an eye toward establishing permanent service from Fall Quarter '08.
New Article Database Now Available
The UC campuses have access to a new multi-disciplinary database with full-text content in the arts, social sciences, humanities, and sciences beginning immediately via EBSCOhost Academic Search Complete. Access to Gale's Infotrac Expanded Academic ASAP will continue to run in parallel with this new database through 30 June 2008. Kresge Challenge Grant to Complete the McHenry Addition and Renovation Project
The renowned Kresge Foundation has awarded McHenry Library a $700,000 challenge grant. In order to actually collect this award the library needs to raise $3.5 million by October 1, 2009. It is an all-or-nothing challenge to the entire community and every gift, large or small, will count towards accomplishing the goal. Grateful Dead Gift Archive to Special Collections
The Grateful Dead announced April 24th at a press conference in San Francisco's historic Fillmore auditorium that the band is donating its archives to UCSC's Special Collections. The Archives document the history of the band from 1965 to the present. More...
